Society Materials 18 August 2008 07:50 (UTC +04:00)

The last week of competition at the Beijing Games started Monday in unusually mild temperatures, but forecasters said thunderstorms would threaten toward evening.

On a bright day, temperatures of around 22 degrees were registered at 9 am. These were expected to go up to 29 by midday, the dpa reported.

Thunderstorms were possible in the evening, which could disrupt the athletic finals scheduled for Monday in the Beijing Birds Nest.

Sailors in Qingdao would - once again - not have ideal conditions as winds weaken toward the afternoon in temperatures of up to 28 degrees.

The participants in the equestrian competition in Hong Kong were expected once again to face the highest temperatures as they were expected to rise to 34 degrees.
