Azerbaijan’s Some Football Clubs Want to Bribe Me: Chief of Committee of Judges

Azerbaijan, Baku, 5 Dec/ Trend corr R. Ergun/ Chairman of the Committee of Judges of the Association of Football Federation of Azerbaijan (AFFA) Khagani Mammadov described reports about his dismissal as false.

"The reports about my dismissal are false. No one is dissatisfied with my performance," Mammadov told press conference on 5 Dec.

Several days ago Mammadov was reported to be dismissed from 1 Jan 2009 and to be replaced by Ali Huseinov, former chairman of the Committee of Judges.

Mammadov complained about heads of some clubs.

"Some clubs try to bribe me. But this is impossible. I will not mention their names. But I can reveal their names if this keep on like this," Mammadov added.

Mammadov said Azerbaijani judges have improved their performance.

"Though some people do not admit it, Azerbaijan's Premier League has improved. Our judges have also improved their performance," he said.

Mammadov said Anar Niyazov was the best judge of first round of the Premier League.

"We are criticized for appointing Niyazov for major matches of the Premier League. He performed well in all matches. I think he was the best judge of the first round," he said.
