Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb.4 / Trend corr E. Rustamov / In Ganja city, located in the Western Azerbaijan (365 kilometers outside Baku), citizens of the fifth micro-district obstructed a highway due to the water problem.

As a result of the protest action of about 50 persons, traffic in Uzeyir Hajibayov street was suspended for awhile.

The protesters demanded to resume water supply to houses.

The citizens opened the road after the intervention of the police.

Deputy head of the executive committee of Ganja city Shahmali Javadov told Trend on Feb.4 that the water problem exists in several parts of the city. About 60 percent of citizens of the fifth micro-district have paid out taxes for water. The water supply will be resumed if the sum of the payment will continue to rise till the evening.

The water problem hasn't been removed since January. The water supply was cut as a result of suspension of power supply to several water reservoirs and artesian springs. A source in a daughter stock company "Cy Kanal" said the reason is that the citizens don't totally pay out the consumed water.

According to the source, the citizens owed nine million manats to the company and the company owes 13 million manats to the electric network of Ganja city.
