Two Azerbaijani children handed to adoption of foreign citizens last year

One child was handed to adoption to a Russian citizen, the other - a U.S. citizen last year, head of section for interstate adoption of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children of Azerbaijan Vasila Movsumova told Trend Wednesday.

One child was handed to adoption to a Russian citizen, the other - a U.S. citizen last year, head of section for interstate adoption of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children of Azerbaijan Vasila Movsumova told Trend Wednesday.
According to Movsumova, one person adopting the child is Azerbaijani.

Movsumova said there are a lot of people willing to take the children for adoption. Noting the importance of exploring each of the applications and registration of all documents required by law, the section head added that the adoption process can take six months to one year.

According to her, in 2009, the Committee handed five children, of whom three boys and two girls, to adoption of foreign nationals and stateless persons. After appointing the Committee as central agency on adoption, a total of 14 children have been handed to adoption of foreign nationals. Of these, eight are girls and six - boys. According to Movsumova, handed to adoption of foreign nationals, the children are mostly sick.

According to Movsumova, the largest number of requests for adoption of children from Azerbaijan came from U.S. citizens. However, in 2009, children were given up for adoption of citizens of European countries. The countries appealing to the Committee include France, England, Switzerland, Italy.

Transfer of children of citizens of Azerbaijan to the adoption of foreign nationals or stateless persons subject to the consent of the State Committee of Azerbaijan for Family, Women and Children.
