The problem of drug smuggling into Azerbaijan through Iran's territory from Afghanistan remains unsolved, the Deputy Prime Minister said.

"Unfortunately, Iran is used as a transit country for drug smuggling into Azerbaijan. The relevant work is carried out between the two countries to prevent this fact. But, unfortunately, this problem remains unresolved," Ali Hasanov, Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister, Head of the State Commission for Combating Drug Addiction and Illicit Drug Trafficking, told journalists.

He said that as a result of the implementation of international projects in Azerbaijan, the volume of cargo transportation, which affects drug smuggling, significantly increases.Hasanov added that the law enforcement agencies seriously combat drug trafficking.

According to him, an annual report meeting of the commission will be held in the coming days, which will discuss this issue.
