A hotline service will be set up in Azerbaijan for domestic violence victims, OSCE Baku Office head Ali Bilge Cankorel said at the "Execution of the 'Law on the Prevention of Domestic Violence'" conference today.

The OSCE Baku Office's main priority for 2011 will be the fight against domestic violence and support for this work, Cankorel said.

A number of activities will be carried out in 2011 to promote the Law on the Prevention of Domestic Violence, he said. The activities include the holding of roundtables with the joint participation of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs, law enforcement officials and civil society members.

Azerbaijani State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs Chairmen Hijran Huseynova said domestic violence is a major problem facing society. She stressed the need for the participation of all groups in society while addressing this problem.

The population lacks information about this law, she said. Huseynova considers it essential for every member of society to understand the essence of the law.
Huseynova said domestic problems are not caused by social problems, but rather psychological factors.
