10 works of the Kazakhstani finalists of the children's drawing competition on gender equality will now go to the global competition in Belgium, EU press-release says.

Children's drawing competition on gender equality took place all over Kazakhstan from 8 March till 16 May. This year schoolchildren aged 8-10 have submitted more than 250 drawings.

Tomorrow, on 1 June 2011, the Head of Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Kazakhstan, Ambassador Norbert Jousten will present diplomas and commemorative gifts to the finalists. The awarding ceremony will be attended by the officials of the EU member states' embassies.

On 19 May, the Museum of the First President of Kazakhstan hosted an exhibition of all the drawings submitted for the competition. The third- and fourth-grade schoolchildren from six Astana schools voted for the drawings they liked the most, the press-release of EU delegation to Kazakhstan says. And now the works of the finalists will be presented at a world competition in Brussels.

Since 2007, the European Commission has been organizing on the occasion of the
International Women's Day a global drawing competition on gender equality under the
patronage of the Princess of Belgium Mathilde. The jury comprised of European
schoolchildren will select two drawings from every region of the world.

The winners will be awarded prizes equivalent to 1000 Euros, and their pictures will be included into a booklet for distribution in the schools of all participating countries.

In 2009, one of the laureates of the competition was a 9-year-old Kazakhstani boy Temirlan Kargulov from the town of Zhitikara, Kostanay Oblast, the press-release says.
