The Eurovision Song Contest 2012 will take place at the Baku Crystal Hall, which is under construction near the State Flag Square in Baku, Azerbaijan, the Eurovision TV website reported today.

The Eurovision Song Contest 2012 will take place at the Baku Crystal Hall, which is under construction near the State Flag Square in Baku, Azerbaijan, the Eurovision TV website reported today.

The decision has been today made by representatives of a group of referents of the European Broadcasting Union.

Three places - the Tofig Bakhramov Republican stadium, Heydar Aliyev Sports and Concert Complex, Baku Crystal Hall were offered to conduct the contest.

Executive Producer of Eurovision Jon Ola Sand commented on this decision.
"We are very worried," Eurovision Executive Producer said. "Eurovision-2012 will take place in the new concert hall."

Today, representatives of the European Broadcasting Union visited Crystal Hall in Baku. Representatives familiarized with the ongoing construction work and met with heads of the construction company. The European Broadcasting Union stated that the hall meets the highest standards.

The construction of Baku Crystal Hall sports complex near the National Flag Square was launched in September, 2011. The arena, which is capable to accommodate about 25,000 people, will be commissioned in April 2012.

The winner of the tender of the State Property Committee of Azerbaijan to build a new sports-concert complex on the National Flag Square in Baku was selected the well-known German company Alpine Bau Deutchland AG.

ALPINE Bau Deutschland AG's project partners are gmp International GmbH, the Swiss companies Nüssli AG and Basler & Hofmann AG, as well as Austrian company GmbH & Co. KG and SSF Ingenieure AG.

Azerbaijan will hold the 57th Eurovision Song Contest. Semifinal rounds of the contest will be held in Baku on May 22 and May 24, while the Final will be held on May 26.

Contest participants from Azerbaijan, Eldar Gasimov and Nigar Jamal (Ell / Nikki) won the Eurovision-2011 with the song "Running Scared" scoring 221 points.
