Ten people have been accused under a criminal case in connection with the rally in Bina shopping center, a joint statement of Baku Prosecutor's Office and Chief Police Department said on Monday.

As reported earlier, on January 19, a group of entrepreneurs working at Bina shopping center in Garadagh district of Baku protested against the additional fee imposed by the shopping center's management holding an unauthorized rally and blocking the Baku-Astara highway near the center.

Ignoring the warnings to stop disturbing public order, the rally participants resisted the police, putting their lives and health in danger, the statement said.

As a result, criminal proceedings were instituted under articles 221.3 (hooliganism) and 315.2 (resistance or use of force against a government official) of Azerbaijani Criminal Code.

The investigation team of police and prosecutor's office examined the scene, interviewed witnesses and conducted immediate legal proceedings.

It was ascertained that as a result of the incident traffic was disrupted on the highway between 11:00 - 11:45 and 11 service cars of Interior Ministry were damaged. Six of the 19 injured police officers are receiving inpatient treatment while 13 are under outpatient treatment.

Ten people who were accused under the criminal case have been sentenced to imprisonment.
Administrative penalties were imposed on 30 rally participants.

Necessary investigation and search operations are carried out at the moment to determine the organizers and participants of the crime.
