European Games’ security ensured in Azerbaijan at high level (UPDATE)

The security of the European Games is ensured in Azerbaijan at a high level, said the Azerbaijani national security minister, Colonel-General Eldar Mahmudov on Apr. 20.
He made the remarks at an event dedicated to the 5th anniversary of the creation of a sports and fitness center of the Azerbaijani National Security Ministry.
The event was also attended by the Minister of Youth and Sports Azad Rahimov and other officials.
The participants of the event were informed about the work carried out to strengthen the material and technical base of the ministry's sports and fitness center.
Minister Mahmudov congratulated the center's staff, the members of the 'Titan' sports club and wished them to further improve Azerbaijan's sports authority.
He said the development of sport in Azerbaijan and its successes are also connected with the name of Azerbaijan's National Leader Heydar Aliyev.
The minister said that as a result of the attention and care of Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev, the sport is developing rapidly in the country.
He also added that currently, the country is commissioning Olympic sport complexes, as well as the sports fitness centers, which meet the modern international standards.
"Grandiose sports centers, created in recent years in the capital and regions of the country are indicators of Azerbaijan's sport potential," said Mahmudov.
Speaking about the holding of the First European Games in Baku, he said Azerbaijan is proving that it is capable of holding the international sporting events, international tournaments, European and world championships.
He said the Azerbaijani athletes have in recent years achieved great success.
Mahmudov especially stressed the merits of Azerbaijan's First Lady, Chairperson of the Baku 2015 First European Games Organizing Committee Mehriban Aliyeva in the rapid development of sports in the country.
Mahmudov also spoke about the sports achievements of the ministerial staff.
"The ministry's staff has won 47 gold, 42 silver and 33 bronze medals at various competitions for the last year," he said.
In his speech, Azad Rahimov said that the successful social policy pursued by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, plays an important role in the development of sports in the country.
"The creation of modern legislation in this area, the formation of effective management systems, the development of the material and technical base contribute to the development of sports in Azerbaijan," he said.
"The highest estimation of Azerbaijan's success in sports is to hold the first European Games in the country," Rahimov said.
The minister highlighted the role of Azerbaijani First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva in the development of sports in the country, as well as the creation of the modern sports infrastructure.
Then a number of representatives of the sports center of the National Security Ministry were awarded for services in official activity and development of sports.
Baku 2015 is the first ever European Games, an exciting and innovative multi-sport event for the continent which will take place on June 12-28, 2015.
There will be a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports.
More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe will be representing their nations over 17 days of competition. Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
