Azerbaijani gymnast talks focusing on artistry during work on program

BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 17. We now pay more attention to artistry when working on a program, Azerbaijani athlete Zohra Aghamirova told Trend after the completion of the 27th Azerbaijan Championship in Rhythmic Gymnastics.

“Yesterday we had the all-around, today the finals in four exercises. I failed to successfully perform the club program, but the performance with other objects was rather good,” Aghamirova said. “I like to work with all gymnastic tools, but I prefer exercises with clubs. At the Azerbaijan Championship, I demonstrated a new program.”

Speaking about the FIG Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup scheduled to be held in April in Baku, the athlete stressed that she would try to show a good result.

“For this, I need to train a lot, improve skills. Now I’m performing much more confidently. This year I feel more at ease even compared to last year’s performances,” concluded Aghamirova.

At the 27th Azerbaijan Championship, she won gold in the all-around, ball and ribbon exercise program, and silver in the hoop and club exercise program.

The 27th Azerbaijan Championship in Rhythmic Gymnastics was held from March 16 through March 17.

In total, 40 gymnasts from Baku Gymnastics School, “Ocaq Sport”, “Republican Complex Sports School” representing Baku, as well as athletes from Khirdalan’s “Zirve” Sports Club, Sumgayit, Ganja and Mingachevir are participating in the Championship.

Gymnasts are competing in two age categories - juniors (13-15 year-old) and seniors (16 year-old and older).

After a two-year break, spectators are able to watch the competitions at the National Gymnastics Arena due to the mitigation measures within a special quarantine regime.

The spectators must have a valid COVID-19 vaccination certificate or immune certificate, a certificate of contraindications to COVID-19 vaccine except for people under 18.
