BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 14. A reporting meeting of the State Border Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SBS) on the results of service and combat activities in 2023 was held on December 14, Trend reports, referring to the SBS.
At the meeting, Colonel General Elchin Guliyev, Head of the State Border Guard Service, emphasized that, as a result of grandiose activities carried out under the leadership of the greatest military leader in the history of Azerbaijan, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, the year 2023 is of exceptional significance for the history of Azerbaijani statehood and is marked by the full restoration of the country's territorial integrity.
It was noted that these achievements were reached due to the consistent realization of ideas of genius leader Heydar Aliyev in the field of border protection, as well as the highest attention of victorious Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev to the issues of state border protection.
President Ilham Aliyev was familiarized with the conditions created in the complex of the Separate Border Division "Gazakh" of the Border Troops of the State Border Guard Service on August 7, 2023. Awarding two officers of the State Border Guard Service with the highest military rank of "major-general" and awarding employees of the State Border Guard Service with orders and medals for bravery and distinction in service was greeted with great enthusiasm by the personnel.
At the event, it was noted that the tasks set by President Ilham Aliyev for the State Security Service of Azerbaijan were fulfilled at a high level. Among the serious achievements is the unique operation that resulted in the establishment of the Lachin checkpoint across the state border, which is of crucial importance for ending Armenian separatism on the territory of the country, as well as the fulfillment of combat tasks by the State Security Service in full during local anti-terrorist activities.
Also noted among the main achievements of the State Border Guard Service in 2023 are:
Disarming enemy snipers, combat post, and deployment point in response to an enemy provocation, during which a border guard serving at the Lachin checkpoint of the state border was wounded on June 15 as a result of fire opened from the territory of the Republic of Armenia;
- detention of 489 persons for violation of the state border; 10,689 persons for violation of the border regime; 3,609 persons wanted; 252 persons with forged documents, 4 persons - with false documents, 4 persons - who tried to cross the state border illegally through the checkpoints but were detained as a result of the vigilance of the border guards;
- detection of eight persons suspected of links with foreign special services for intelligence and subversive activities against Azerbaijan, within the framework of the fight against terrorism - detention of seven persons who fought abroad, neutralization of 21 organized crime group (OCGs) engaged in illegal drug trafficking, three OCGs - smuggling, five OCGs - illegal migration;
- prevention of illegal transportation of 2 tons 95 kilograms 338 grams of narcotic drugs across the state border, smuggling worth over 51 million manat ($29.9 million), destruction of 36 tons 222 kilograms of plants containing narcotic drugs during the year;
- construction of 150 kilometers of new roads in the territories liberated from occupation, overhaul of 354 kilometers of roads, laying of special berms for traffic safety on 7.1 kilometers;
- clearing an area of 2,661 hectares of landmines and unexploded ordnance, removing 1,598 anti-personnel mines, 1,763 anti-tank mines and 518 unexploded ordnance.
The reports of the heads of the State Border Guard Service military units were heard at the reporting meeting, the performance of the subordinate structures was assessed, and the main tasks and assignments facing the State Border Guard Service in 2024 were brought to the attention of the personnel.
It was emphasized that Azerbaijani border guards are ready to honorably and proudly carry out every assignment of the President of Azerbaijan, victorious Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ilham Aliyev.
