BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 28. The snow cover in 2023 is showing changes compared to the indicators of the last two years, the head of the Land Use Control Department of Azerbaijan's Ministry of Agriculture Firidun Taghiyev said at the “Role of Water Management Systems in Climate-Resilient Agriculture” COP29 round table, Trend reports.
Taghiyev noted that over the past seven years, glacier areas in the country's territory have decreased by 18 percent on average.
“The area of mountain lakes has decreased by 4.2 percent compared to August last year. Judging from our observations in recent years, it is not the Kura River that flows into the sea, but the sea flows into the Kura. The Kura River, which originates in Türkiye, cannot join the sea in the territory of Neftchala district. This will eventually lead to the depletion of our water resources,” he added.
