( news.sawf.org ) - Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie will attend the prestigious Cannes Film Festival in France next month in support of their film A Mighty Heart. The film is based on the life of Mariane Pearl the wife of Wall Street Journal journalist Daniel Pearl, killed after being kidnapped in the Pakistani city of Karachi in January 2002 where he was investigating Islamic militancy.
The film is based on a screen play by Mariane Pearl and is produced by Brad's Plan B production company. Jolie plays Pearl's widow Mariane while Dan Futterman plays the journalist. For security reasons part of the film had to be shot in Anundh, India about 200 kilometres (125 miles) southeast of Mumbai, where the landscape matches areas in Karachi. Speaking about the film, Angelina recently told Entertainment: "The story unfolds like a mystery. You've got people collecting clues and trying to solve what happened. But it's also very real and personal. We didn't want it to be too melodramatic or too polished. We didn't want it to be a typical movie."
A total of 21 films are competing for the prestigious Palme d'Or at the Cannes. Veteran directors Quentin Tarantino, Emir Kusturica, Gus Van Sant and Wong Kar Wai will be vying against a large group of upcoming young filmmakers for the top prize.
