Azerbaijan, Baku / corr. Trend S.Ilhamgizi / While paying his official visit to Baku, Zurab Melikishvili, the Governor of the Georgian Kvemo-Kartli region, stated on 21 June that the Georgian Government is working on solving the problem of his country's people regarding land reclamation, including Azerbaijanis residing in Georgia, and that Georgia feels the support of the Azerbaijani Government in this direction.

Melikishvili noted that Kvemo-Kartli is a densely Azerbaijani populated region of Georgia.

Around 80% of the problems linked with land reforms in Georgia have been solved over the past year.

"Passing of the new Law on Privatization of Agricultural Lands helped us very much. Presently, the Government is taking measures regarding infrastructure of the regions," Melikishvili said.

The Georgian regions, including the Kvemo-Kartli region, have great economic potential, thus the Government intends to expand its infrastructure and employment possibilities.

"We want businessmen from Azerbaijan, and other countries to come to Georgia and open new jobs. Currently, reconstruction projects are being made to improve drinking water. The melioration system is planned to be restored in the next two years, which will allow us to hold irrigative work on the 20,000 hectare. This is a positive step," Melikishvili noted.

The opening ceremony of the new tinned food factory in the Kvemo-Kartli region of Georgia will be held in a month and a half.
