Health of Prosecuted Azerbaijani Journalist Worsens

Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend I.Alizade / The health of prosecuted editor of Nota-Bene newspaper, Faramaz Norvuzoglu, suddenly worsened, said Norvuzoglu's brother Gurban Allahverdiyev.

According to him, Norvuzoglu who went on huger strike on 20 July has lost 17 kg. Norvuzoglu requires to create conditions for him to publish his articles which will provide an opportunity to him to ensure material demands of his family. Norvuzoglu is willing to meet with the representatives of the international organizations and Embassy of Israel in Azerbaijan, as well as wants his criminal case to be reconsidered. If journalist's requirements are not fulfilled, he will refuse Azerbaijani citizen ship.

The Head of the Penal System of Azerbaijan's Justice Ministry, Rafig Ramazanov, testified that Norvuzoglu went on hunger strike. According to him, the prosecuted journalist is under doctor control. "I do not know what the demand of Norvuzoglu is," Ramazanov said.

On 30 July 2007 Faramaz Norvuzoglu was sentenced to two years imprisonment.
