About 14,000 Azerbaijani School Leavers to Take Entrance Exams on 4th Specialty Croup

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. S.Ilhamgizi / The Azerbaijani State Commission on Student Admission has reported that the Commission will be holding Entrance Examinations for the 4th specialty group (medicine, chemistry, biology and other specialized subjects) as well as to high school on the basis of 9 years education on 31 July for years 2007/2008. The Azerbaijani State Commission on Student Admission has reported that 10 State Universities and 1 private University educate specialists of the 4th group on 25 specialty subjects.

About 14,095 students have submitted applications for the 4th group, 5,066 boys and 9,029 girls. A total 13,024 school leavers will write examinations in Baku schools and 1,071 in Nakhchivan. The exams to high schools for years 2007/2008 will be held in Baku, Sumgayit, Ganja, Lankaran, Mingachevir, Shaki and Gekchay regions of Azerbaijan. About 14,629 applicants have submitted applications to 8,161 vacancy places in high schools consisting of 9,359 girls and 5,270 boys.

887 high school teachers will be supervising the examinations from Baku and Sumgayit schools.

47% of school leavers of the 4th specialized group are city residents. 9,168 are school leavers from last year's high school graduates, 64 are foreign citizens, 39 have higher education, and 312 are school leavers of average specialized educational institutions. The oldest school leaver is 49 years and the youngest is 15 years.

In 2006, 125 school leavers of the 2nd specialty group collected above 600 points. The highest mark in this group was 686,875 points. 22 school leavers were awarded with scholarships by the Azerbaijani President.

3,291 reserved places of the 4th specialty group were allocated to specialized subjects such as Physical Training and Sport' 942 places, medical business 500 places and Biology 395 places.

Some 8,161 planned places were allocated For 2007/2008 on the basis of education for high schools, 5,392 were free, 2,769 were paid (in 2006 of the 8,014 places 5,080 were free, 2,934 were paid). 7,386 places were allocated to the Azerbaijani sector, 4,842 were free, 2,544 were paid. 233 places were allocated to the Russian sector 140 were free, 93 were paid and 542 places for joint contest.
