Azerbaijan preparing strategic plans to realize 'smart' projects in liberated areas

BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 23

By Sadraddin Aghjayev - Trend:

Azerbaijan will give advantage to 5G technologies when implementing ‘smart’ projects in the liberated (from Armenian occupation as a result of the 44-day war since late Sept. up to early Nov.2020) territories, Coordinator of the Innovation Agency Elman Karimli said in an interview with Trend.

According to Karimli, the 5G technology was originally developed for such large projects as Smart City and Smart Village.

"Compared to 4G antennas, 5G antennas are smaller in size and look like a modem, and the installation of this technology is easier, and the speed is many times higher,” he noted. “Cable Internet connection is necessary for some hard-to-reach places where there may be interruptions in the transmission of wireless signals where the wired Internet can ensure the continuity of data transmission. Most of the solutions of ‘smart’ projects will be based on the 5G network.”

Besides, according to the agency’s representative, the implementation of these projects should start with alternative energy.

“I believe that the implementation of these projects should start with alternative energy because these types of sources are the safest for the environment in the region,” he added.

Along with the above, strategic plans are being prepared to automate the activities of public sectors and small and medium-sized businesses.

As Karimli pointed out, the concept of ‘smart’ projects in the Karabakh region today doesn’t envisage a specific sequence of automating the activities.

"In this direction, an analysis of the spheres, the activities of which will be automated and digitalized, is underway. Given the geography of this region, I suppose that first of all it’s necessary to automate the agricultural sector," he further said.

He also noted that the ministries have already identified strategic groups of persons who are developing the concept of ‘smart’ projects.

"Together with a number of foreign companies, we in Azerbaijan have already developed the concept of" smart "projects, but it was intended for the city of Baku. From today we have to develop a concept for Karabakh, which implies the need to analyze everything from scratch," stressed the agency’s representative.

He noted that today there are only ideas in the field of implementation of ‘smart’ projects, and there is still no approved concept.

In addition, Karimli stressed that the main idea of the implementation of these projects is to resolve problems, save natural resources and state funds.

"Along with the automation of agricultural activities, the digitalization of the tourism sector is also necessary for these territories. Tourists who will visit this region following modern solutions based on electronic maps should move around it in those places that are most interesting to them and are territories of attractions," concluded Karimli.
