BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 20. Azerbaijan can play an important role as an alternative energy resources supplier to Europe, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia told Trend.

“Energy security has been a key issue for the EU for considerable amount of time. Crisis in Ukraine significantly accelerated discussions about the EU's energy supply, and we are currently looking for ways to reduce our dependency on Russian energy sources. Azerbaijan, a country that we consider a partner, can play an important role in our efforts,” the ministry said.

According to the MFA, Slovenia is open to further developing bilateral relations with Azerbaijan.

“Cooperation between the two countries is good. Economic cooperation between Slovenia and Azerbaijan before the COVID-19 pandemic was relatively modest. It was based mainly on the trade, and mainly on the export of goods from Slovenia to Azerbaijan. The trade turnover between the two countries in 2021 reached 22.9 million euros. Generally, business forums held in recent years and reciprocal visits between the countries' officials have given impetus to the development of ties,” the ministry noted.

As the ministry added, Slovenia is also interested in implementing joint projects with Azerbaijan in such sectors as green technologies and recycling, renewable energy sources, telecommunication and ICT, chemical and pharmaceutical industry, construction and engineering.
