BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 10. Zangazur Corridor will facilitate Azerbaijan in becoming the major transport hub in the South Caucasus, Engin Ozer, Turkish political expert, and representative of the Ankara-Moscow expert-analytical network told Trend.
According to the expert, due to the current geopolitical events, the former transport routes are shifting, and Azerbaijan is becoming an important player in this process.
“Not only Türkiye and Azerbaijan will be able to benefit from this project, but also Russia and the countries of Central Asia,” he said.
Moreover, as Ozer pointed out, China's Belt and Road initiative, a project linking Asia, Africa, and Europe by land and sea in order to deepen regional integration, develop trade and stimulate economic growth, will gain new significance, since Azerbaijan is at the very center of this path.
“Azerbaijan is gaining great importance in this project. Zangazur Corridor will enable all countries in the region and beyond to establish new ties with each other,” the expert stressed.
The expert also rightly noted what opportunities the Zangazur Corridor, and Azerbaijan in general, can open for Russia and Iran, as well as for India, which plans to implement a number of projects, including transport corridors, through Iran and Azerbaijan, where the Corridor can play a significant role.
“This initiative can increase Azerbaijan’s transport potential many times. It will change the geopolitical balance. The country, which is a transport hub, is granted long-term stability in both geopolitical and economic terms. Furthermore, as a member of the Non-Aligned Movement, where Azerbaijan is now the Chair, the country has managed to maintain excellent relations with both the East and the West. I believe that the Zangazur Corridor project will be implemented in the near future, which will allow Azerbaijan to become the most promising and stable country in the South Caucasus,” Ozer concluded.
