BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 25. Azerbaijan is actively developing a startup ecosystem with the support of leading countries in this area, Gulnara Khaidarshina, Deputy Head of Research Chief CIS Macroeconomist at Gazprombank, told Trend.
"The state program for the development of the startup ecosystem was launched in 2021. Within the framework of this program, a preferential tax regime was implemented for startups, assuming exemption from income and profit tax," she said.
In addition, the StartUp School project has been created and is successfully operating in Azerbaijan, as well as IT schools at major universities.
Khaidarshina noted that the country pays great attention to the development of the IT sector with the assistance of state programs and it can turn into a regional hub for outsourcing IT services, which will also contribute to strengthening its role in the Eurasian space.
She also highlighted that the figures of the E-Government Development Index (EGDI) in the country are improving.
Thus, according to the EGDI developed by the UN, Azerbaijan has made significant progress over the past 10 years and ranks 80th among 193 countries following the results of 2022.
