BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 11. As part of COP29 in Baku, Trend News Agency proudly presents COP for Hope, a special project offering an unparalleled platform to hear from world leaders and trailblazers in politics, economics, science, and ecology, all united by a shared commitment to addressing today’s pressing climate challenges.
Deputy Minister of Energy of Azerbaijan and CEO of COP29 Elnur Soltanov said that Azerbaijan has gained significant recognition for its development of "green energy corridors," which are renowned not only for their role in ensuring energy security but also for exporting prosperity.
“COP29 is a pivotal event where Azerbaijan's interests align with global priorities. In light of the upcoming discussions, this moment stands out as one where the world’s priorities align with those of Azerbaijan.
The decisions we make here, as we unite to tackle humanity’s greatest threat—climate change—and the contributions we offer, will not only be our greatest gift to the world but also an even greater gift to Azerbaijan," he noted.
Sultanov further highlighted Azerbaijan's proactive steps toward "green growth" well before COP29.
"The question always arises: are we demonstrating exemplary behavior on the issues we advocate? This is an important factor that impacts the reliability of leadership. We are proud that Azerbaijan has consistently taken steps towards green growth months, even years, before COP29.
We are not doing this to prove anything to anyone but as responsible citizens, a state, and residents of the world. In this regard, Azerbaijan's hosting of COP29 is also recognition of the steps we've already taken. These actions have not only advanced our own goals but have also created a platform for the world to follow.
By developing the concept of ‘green energy’ in Karabakh, we realized that no region in the world has a ‘green energy zone’ of this scale. The ‘green energy corridors’ have garnered significant attention, as Azerbaijan is increasingly recognized as a leader in this field.
These corridors are renowned not just for their contribution to energy security but also for their role in exporting prosperity. Indeed, the challenge of the 21st century is the ‘green challenge,’ and we have redirected our expertise with these corridors toward sustainable energy solutions.
What’s more, we have showcased this approach to the world, setting an example of leadership in action. Today, this initiative is evolving into a global project with far-reaching impact," Soltanov added.
To note, the COP29 conference has officially started today in Baku, Azerbaijan. Running from November 11 through November 22, this pivotal event brings together world leaders, policymakers, and climate experts to address the urgent challenges of climate change. As nations gather to discuss key issues such as climate finance, emission reduction goals, and global cooperation, the outcomes of COP29 will play a crucial role in shaping the future of the planet's climate strategy.
