KHIZI, Azerbaijan, February 18. A media tour was organized today at Azerbaijan's 240 MW Khizi-Absheron Wind Power Plant (WPP), Trend reports.
On the media tour, journalists were given the lowdown on the nitty-gritty of the Khizi-Absheron WPP, including its technical bells and whistles, the economic, social, and ecological perks, and how the project fits into the bigger picture of hitting the country’s energy goals.
Azerbaijan's rich wind energy potential, significant interest in green energy, and the favorable environment created for foreign investments were noted as key factors providing a strong incentive for the implementation of this project.
The media representatives were informed that the Khizi-Absheron WPP will significantly increase the share of green energy in the country's overall energy balance.
Preliminary calculations indicate that the plant will produce nearly 1 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. This will result in a saving of 220 million cubic meters of natural gas, prevent the release of over 400,000 tons of carbon emissions into the atmosphere, and provide electricity to 300,000 homes.
The aggregate capital allocation for the initiative is approximately $340 million.
Currently, four turbines, each with a capacity of 6.5 MW, have been installed at the plant, and it is expected that all turbines will be installed and the plant will be commissioned by 2025.
