Iran prioritizes construction of more housing units - deputy minister

TEHRAN, Iran, Aug. 21

Trend:

Deputy Minister of Road and Urban Development has indicated the Iranian government's priority is to provide land for the construction of 1 million housing units.

The thirteenth government has a few options for operating annual construction of one million housing units and the first option is to use barren lands in the cities, Habibollah Taherkhani noted, Trend reports citing Tasnim News Agency.

The priority of using barren lands for housing development is higher than taxing empty homes because keeping empty lands create big economic rent for owners. Providing incentives could bring barren lands into the process of housing construction.

Identification of public lands that has no agricultural function could be on the agenda of the new Iranian government to join these barren lands in the construction of housing units.

Providing incentives and advances and issuing construction permits could be another priority in line with the government housing construction plan.
