Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr U. Ismayilova / Azerbaijan's labour potential does not correspond with the country's economic requirements, the Azerbaijani Labour and Social Protection Minister, Fizuli Alakbarov, said on 19 October.
"Despite having higher education, youth still fail to find jobs corresponding with their specialty," Alakbarov said.
According to the Minister, Azerbaijan does not have unemployment, but the main problem of the country is a lack of qualified staff. The Ministry is tackling the problem. A large flow of foreign specialists filling the vacancies is also a problem.
"The aim of the Ministry is to improve the quality of labour potential in order to provide Azerbaijani youth with prestigious jobs," the Minister said.
According to the State Statistics Committee, 51,352 unemployed were officially registered in Azerbaijan by 1 October. Four people claim to fill one vacancy.
From January to September, Azerbaijan's able-bodied citizens comprised 4,289,400 and 4,001,500 of them are employed (1,297,000 work on hire).
The average monthly unemployment payment in Azerbaijan is AZN 74.1.
