United Parcel Service (UPS) said India's AFL has agreed to pick up international export shipments in the country, expanding UPS's reach in the world's second-fastest growing major economy.

UPS, the world's biggest package-shipping company, will displace Deutsche Post's DHL Worldwide Express as AFL's partner in India, following DHL's purchase of a majority stake in rival Indian shipper Blue Dart Express.

" India is exploding in terms of growth,'' said John Flick, a UPS spokesman. "This alliance is giving us more access in India and we provide rest-of-the-world access to AFL customers.''

The alliance will help UPS's bid for a greater share of the growth in exports of textiles and electronics from India, where its has a joint venture with Jet Airways ( India) known as UPS Jetair Express.

UPS shipments from India rose about 25 per cent in the third quarter. ( Gulf )
