(dpa) - Tokyo stocks opened modestly higher on Thursday on overnight rises in the US market, but gains were capped amid a wait-and-see mood ahead of Japanese firms'
corporate earnings reports due out later in the day.
The Nikkei 225 Stock Average increased 51.71 points, or 0.38 per cent, to
13,630.87.
The broader Topix index of all first-section issues was also up 5.08 points, or
0.39 per cent, at 1,319.47.
On currency markets at 9 am (0000 GMT), the dollar was quoted at 103.43-48 yen,
up from Wednesday's 5 pm quote of 103.01-03 yen.
The euro was quoted at 1.5880-83 dollars, down from Wednesday's 5 pm quote of
1.5957-77 dollars, and at 164.29-34 yen, down from 164.56-60 yen.
