Azerbaijani Airline Receives Sixth ATR Planes

Azerbaijan, Baku, 26 September/corr. Trend E.Ismaylov/ Azerbaijani state air company AZAL received the sixth ATR plane, produced in France, a source said in the company on 26 September.

Acquiring six new planes will provide an opportunity for Azerbaijan to re-establish the park of planes and create new regional routes.

AZAL has placed order for two ATR-42-500S planes and four ATR-72-500S planes in the French aircraft building company producing ATR aircrafts. The total volume of the contract is about $97.2mln.

The fifth plane was received in July, third and fourth - in June. Last year, the company received two Airliners of the same production.

AZAL has intentions to use new airliners of French ATR primarily for passenger transportations to the air ports of Nakhchivan, Ganja, Lankaran and Zagatala. Last week an airport was opened in Zagatala last week (western regions of Azerbaijan) and in the near days, the airport in Lankaran (southern region) will begin functioning.

Company holds works on the re-establishment of its aircraft park. The company acquired new Boeing aircraft. According to the contract, AZAL will obtain four Boeing 737-900 ER - in 2010-2011, two 767-300 ER - 2010 and two to 787-8S - 2013. Flights to the USA are planned after obtaining 787-8S Dreamliner plane in 2013, Head of AZAL, Jahangir Askerov, said earlier.

At present AZAL owns six aircrafts Antonov and Tupolev. The park of AZAL is planned to be fully re-established within five years.
