Bulgarian Foreign Minister and Ministries Council Deputy Chairman Ivaylo Kalfin will visit Ashgabat on March 30, an official Turkmen source said. The minister will discuss cooperation with Turkmenistan and meet with Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov.
The visit will focus on implementing an agreement reached during Bulgarian President Georgi Pirvanov's visit to Ashgabat in December 2008.
In December, Turkmenistan and Bulgaria signed a memorandum on mutual understanding and cooperation in the energy sector and agreements on economic cooperation and trade relations. An intergovernmental commission was also founded to further partnership in the energy, transport, construction, communications and tourism sectors.
Turkmenistan expressed an interest in Bulgarian companies participating in developing the Turkmen section of the Caspian Sea. The Bulgarian partners were invited to take part in building the North-South railway corridor.
Special attention was paid to Turkmen gas delivery. Ashgabat promised to deliver two billion cubic meters of gas to Sofia. Pirvanov said theh deliveries will be implemented via the existing gas network through the Nabucco projectm which aims to reduce Russia's delivery dominance on European markets.
