GDP growth rate tops 4 percent in Azerbaijan

In January-April 2009, Azerbaijani GDP increased 4.3 percent compared to 2008, the State Statistics Committee said. In current prices GDP indicator made up 9 billion manats.

GDP per capita amounted to 1.042.9 manat ($1.296), an increase of 3 percent.

39.9 percent growth of GDP observed in the non-gas sector, 50.7 percent -non-oil sector, and 9.4 percent - accounts for net tax for products and import. The GDP in the non-oil sector increased 8.4 percent compared to the previous year.

General production volume in all economic sectors increased 3.7 percent, amounting to 58.01 percent of the GDP. Industry composed the bulk at 43.6 percent, or 3.9 billion manat. The services sector accounted for 5.5 percent of the GDP.

In the first quarter of 2009, agriculture, hunting and forestry provided 224.3 million manat, or 2.5 percent of the GDP; construction - 1.073.6 million manat (11.9 percent); transport - 684.9 manat (7.6 percent); communication and post service - 195 million manat (2.2 percent); wholesale and retail trade, automobile field, domestic products and repairing personal-use items - 771 million manat (8.5 percent); restaurants and hotels - 114.4 million manat (1.3 percent); and social and other services - 1.165.5 million manat (13 percent).
