The Azerbaijani government has postponed the holding of 7th round of negotiations with the Working Group of the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva in June, head of the negotiating team, Deputy Foreign Minister Mahmud Mammadguliev said on Monday.

"Perhaps, the multilateral talks will take place in July. The delays caused by the fact that the WTO secretariat had no time to prepare," Mammadguliev said.

According to him, the decision on the date of the next meeting of the WTO Working Group will be taken after the preparation of the multilateral negotiations on agriculture.

At the December meeting, talks were held on goods and services in the prepared report on the factual summary, but the multilateral negotiations on agriculture have been postponed at the request of the WTO secretariat.

The reason for the postponement of the talks was related to preparations for the ministerial meeting of WTO members, which passes through Doha round of talks, as all experts on agriculture have been involved in preparations for the meeting of trade ministers.

"We agreed that WTO member countries will provide us with their proposals on agriculture, after which the study will hold separate meetings of multilateral negotiations in this direction," Mammadguliev said.

Questions were received from Canada and the United States, and European Union promised to provide them during the bilateral talks, expected during the visit to Geneva for a multilateral meeting. National interests of producers, the strategy of economic development, as well as current realities in global markets were taken into account while preparing response.

Bilateral negotiations with the EU are expected along with a number of WTO members.

Azerbaijan wants to join WTO on acceptable terms for the country, not damaging the development and improve the economy.

Since 1997, Azerbaijan represented at the World Trade Organization as an observer.

According to estimates of the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC), the member countries will be accepted to WTO up to 2013. At present, eight CAREC countries, three - China, Mongolia and Kyrgyzstan are already members of WTO.
