Cost of project on assembling of electric locomotives disclosed in Kazakhstan

Around $49 million will be invested in project entitled Organizing Production of Electric Locomotives, Kamkor Management Repairs Corporation Director General Yuri Lavrinenko said in Astana.  

"Hundred people are employed with shop for construction of asynchronous engines and body shop," Lavrinenko said.

He said both passenger and cargo locomotives will be assembled in the plant.

An agreement was reached with representatives of China South Locomotive and Rolling Stock industry Corporation and Siemens to assemble modern electric locomotives in Kazakhstan.

Lavrinenko said the plant has capacity of 50 locomotives per year by 2015. The term of recompense is 7 years. It will be launched in the second quarter of 2010.
