Turkmenistan, China to mull economic cooperation in Ashgabat

In late June Vice-Premier of the Chinese State Council Lee Ketsyan will visit Turkmenistan. He is responsible for financial and economic activity, statistics, prices, reform and other areas related to macroeconomics, the official Turkmen sources said.

The two countries are linked with common gas projects, construction of which is done through the territory of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. It is planned to begin transportation of gas through the pipeline with a capacity of up to 30-40 billion cubic meters a year early next year. The initial throughput capacity of the pipeline will be about 5 billion cubic meters of fuel.

In early June, the Government of China has expressed a willingness to allocate $3 billion to develop Turkmenistan's natural gas in the South Iolotan, which is one of the top four largest gas fields in the world. The forecast resources amount to 4-14 trillion cubic meters of gas.
