Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, July 20 / Trend ,G.Hasanov/

Turkmenistan will significantly increase agricultural production, which is in demand in world markets and which will be exported to foreign countries, President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov said.

In 2009, Turkmenistan collected 1.2 million tons of wheat, which is higher than last year's harvest by 200,000 tons. The country's domestic demand is two million tons, and at this stage the products are imported into the CIS. During the Soviet period, Central Asian countries were almost entirely dependent on grain imports, locally producing just over 70,000 tons.

Turkmenistan prepares raw cotton harvests, some of which are processed within the country and the rest of which are exported. This year Berdymuhamedov has ordered that cotton harvest production should provide 1,050,000 tons. In 2008, the country collected the same amount, which is slightly higher than in 2007.

In the autumn a forum of CIS agricultural producers will be hosted in Ashgabat.
