Turkey intends to intensify trade with Turkmenistan

An exhibition of Turkish export goods was opened in the Exhibition Palace in Ashgabat on September 2 to enhance trade and economic relations between the two Turkic-speaking countries.

According to official statistics, Turkey and Turkmenistan have an active turnover. It was $855,200,000 in 2008, and was $700 million within only six months of 2009.

"The International Exhibition of Turkish ExportGgoods in Ashgabat is an event that may affect the further expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation and a lasting partnership between the parties" the Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimukhamedov told participants.

He said that the exhibition will open new opportunities to unite efforts and expand cooperation with Turkish producers.

Approximately 80 companies participated in the exhibition organized by the Turkish exhibition company, Meridyen, and the Turkmen Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

According to organizers, the exhibition is divided into sectors which included the construction and chemical industries, electronics, food products and perfume. Over 500 companies with Turkish capital have been registered on the Turkmen market. This is almost 35 percent of the foreign companies operating in Turkmenistan.

Turkey realizes about 800 projects in various sectors of the national economy.
