In early December, a World Bank delegation will visit Baku as part of the bank's global gas flaring reduction program (GGFR), the WB Baku Office said today.
"The main purpose of the mission will be to define priorities and assess the amount of work conducted in Azerbaijan," the source added."International oil companies are interested in implementing this program, so their representatives may also be included in the mission."
The State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) has been a member of the GGFR since 2008. SOCAR has established a working group to prepare a plan for utilizing associated gas whose passage is expected to occur by late 2009. SOCAR has also requested support from the program for measuring gas-flaring volume, which provided recommendations for further the improvement of activities in this area.
