Baku Metro head: Baku Metro development program submitted for review

The Baku Metro submitted four options of a 20-year state development program for review to the relevant state agencies, Baku Metro head Tagi Ahmedov said Feb.18.

"Operations are underway. All have been submitted for coordination," he said.

According to Ahmedov, the document was submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers, Baku Executive Power, State Committee on Architecture and Town Building, Finance Ministry, Economic Development Ministry, and Transport Ministry.

The project is being prepared by a consortium of foreign companies, including the French SYSTRA SA, the Czech MOTT McDonalds and the South Korean SAMAN.

Forty-six new metro stations will be planned construction and commissioned under the program.

A city transport model reflecting passenger traffic in the capital was prepared under the program.

Roughly 2 million manat were allocated to the Baku Metro from a presidential reserve fund to launch preparations for the new metro program.    

The Baku Metro has operated since 1967 and has 21 stations.
