Turkmenistan to switch to int'l financial reporting standards by 2014

All Turkmen enterprises, institutions and organizations irrespective of ownership (except banks) will make a phased transition to international accounting and auditing meeting system from January 2013. The transition will be completed by Jan. 1, 2014.

The government is currently holding refresher courses for small- and medium-sized businesses on international accounting standards, the Neutralniy Turkmenistan newspaper reported.

The Business School of the Turkmen Industrialists and Entrepreneurs Union initiated the courses for union members. The courses launched with an introductory seminar attended by principle accountants and business leaders.

The international accounting certification program consists of two stages - the Certified Accounting Practitioner and the Certified International Professional Accountant certificates.
