Georgian Railway to build shore protection structures in Adjara

The Georgian Railways Infrastructure Department has started construction of shore protection structures on the railway section Chakvi-Makhinjauri, Georgian Railways said.

On this site the railway bed passes in 15-20 meters from the beach and during storms undergo deformation and damage. 

The Department states that not only passenger trains, but also tanks with oil products have heavy traffic in Chakvi-Makhinjauri section.

"In order to prevent damage and deformation of railway bed on the Black Sea coast of Adjara, the Georgian Railway began the construction of shore protection structures on the Green Cape. As a result of these works coastline will be strengthened, and railway bed will be protected," Georgian Railways said.

Some 3.4 million lari have been allocated for the construction works.
