Iran and Syria have signed two Memoranda of Understanding on free trade and industrial cooperation ahead of a ceremony to present the Syrian president with an honorary medal, Press TV reported.

Iran and Syria have signed two Memoranda of Understanding on free trade and industrial cooperation ahead of a ceremony to present the Syrian president with an honorary medal, Press TV reported.

Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki and his visiting Syrian counterpart Walid al-Muallem inked the free trade agreement (FTA) in Tehran on Saturday.

Iranian Industries Minister Ali Akbar Mehrabian also signed an agreement on industrial cooperation with Muallem.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad arrived in Tehran on Saturday for a one-day visit. Assad discussed regional and international developments with high-ranking Iranian officials.

Assad was presented with the Grand National Order of the Islamic Republic of Iran for his resistance against "arrogant powers", defense of the rights of the Palestinian and Lebanese nations, his key role in the stability and tranquility of regional countries and great efforts to strengthen brotherly Iran-Syria ties.
