Turkmenistan records significant growth in GDP

Turkmenistan recorded a dramatic growth in GDP - at 7 percent in January-October 2010, an official Turkmen source reported. These figures were announced during the last governmental meeting.

Turkmenistan occupies one of the key positions in the region on natural gas supplies. The country's main importers are Russia, China and Iran. At the same time, the government adopted a policy to diversify its economy in recent years. Turkmenistan records a growth in the oil and gas processing, textile industry and tourism.

GDP growth has been achieved in the construction sector, transport and communications sector, in agriculture, as well as in trade and services.

During the report period, the growth rate of retail turnover amounted to 16.3 percent. The volume of foreign trade also increased in January-September.

In January-September 2010, the volume of investments from all sources of funding grew by 18.8 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2009.

The paid services rendered to the population increased by 17 percent and passenger transportation services in all modes of transport - by 14.5 percent compared to the same period last year.
