Poland ready to invest in Azerbaijan’s tourism sector

The volume of tourist exchange between Azerbaijan and Poland doesn't meet the existing real opportunities, the protocol of the fourth meeting of the Azerbaijani-Polish joint commission on economic cooperation held in Baku.

"In 2009, a significant growth was marked in Polish citizens' visits to Azerbaijan. However, the Intergovernmental Commission noted that the volume of tourist exchange between Azerbaijan and Poland doesn't meet the existing potential. A lack of direct flights is a considerable restriction of growth of tourist trips is assessing both countries' tourism industry," the protocol says.

The Azerbaijani side informed about a letter sent to Poland relevant ministry to create a joint commission on tourism between the governments of Azerbaijan and Poland.

The Polish side proposes the creation of a working group on tourism cooperation within the intergovernmental commission.

Poland has also offered the establishment of cooperation of the National Tourism Cooperative "Gromada" in the sphere of tourist exchange and training of specialized staff for the tourism organizations in Azerbaijan.

In addition, the commission is recommended to participate in international activities held in the sphere of tourism, as well as at the international tourism fairs organized in each country; to exchange information and advertising materials in the relevant field between official tourism authorities of both sides; to consider opening direct flights between Poland and Azerbaijan; explore the possibility of Polish investments in Azerbaijan's tourism sector; to explore possibilities of cooperation in education in the tourism sphere; to establish a working group on cooperation in the tourism sector within the commission on economic cooperation.

The Commission received a proposal regarding the opening of direct Warsaw-Baku flights.
