Georgia imposes ban on import of goods in hand luggage through land borders

A ban was imposed on import of goods for trade in hand luggage in Georgia through the country's land borders. Import of such goods in passenger motor transport is also banned. The Georgian Deputy Finance Minister Rusudan Kemularia made a statement in this regard.

"One of the ministry's priorities is to offer mainly this type of administration. It envisages protection to businesses against unhealthy competition and smuggling," Kemularia said.

According to her, this form of administration is adopted under the Finance Ministry's new policy. Kemularia stressed that in recent years, despite the taken measures, products, imported by violating customs rules are available on the market.

Regarding to the fact that who will determine whether the product is intended for economic activity, Kemularia said that passage of customs procedures will be ensured by a customs officer, and therefore, defining the purpose will be included in his task.
