CBA increases its liquidity support to banks by almost 36 percent in 2010

Balance on liquidity operations of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) increased from 1,454 million manat in 2009 to 1.949 million manat in 2010, a review of monetary policy for the year, released by the country's Central Bank on Saturday.

In general, the total amount of liquidity provided to banks (in the form of loans, swap transactions, etc) amounted to 2012.9 million manat last year, while the figure was at the level of 1 483.5 million manat the year before last. An increase was 35.7 percent.

The total amount of issue of CBA's notes in 2010 totaled 311 million manat, 223.8 million manat (86 percent of total issue) of which was placed. The weight average yield of notes hit 2.08 percent, while in early year it was at the level of one percent.

The amount of notes in circulation compared to early year increased by 31 million manat or 3.4 times, and in late year amounted to 40 million manat.

The volume of repo operations conducted with the notes of the CBA during the reporting period to ensure the needs of banks for liquidity and timely execution of their obligations before clients amounted to812million manat.

The official exchange rate on Feb.14 was 0.7954 manat to $1.
