Uzbekistan’s foreign trade turnover jumps by 25 percent

Foreign trade turnover of Uzbekistan made up $1.437 billion in January 2011 (24.9-percent increase year-on-year), including with the CIS states - $606.5 million and others states -$830.2 million, the Uzbek State Statistics Committee said.

Uzbekistan's exports increased by 26.6 percent year-on-year to $797.9 million in the reporting period and imports grew by 22.9 percent year-on-year to $638.8 million.

Uzbekistan exported goods and services worth $355.6 million to the CIS states, which is 2.2 times up year-on-year. Exports to other countries decreased by 6.4 percent year-on-year to $442.3 million.

The volume of imports from the CIS countries made up $250.9 million in the report period, or grew by 43.9 percent year-on-year. Imports to other countries rose 12.2 percent year-on-year to $387.9 million.
Trade surplus reached $159.1 million in January 2011, including with the CIS states - $104.7 million and other countries - $54.4 million.

Cotton-fiber and energy resources were main export items of Uzbekistan in January 2011. Share of cotton-fiber in exports reached 27.5 percent and energy resources - 23.1 percent. Share of ferrous and non-ferrous metals in exports made up 12 percent and services - 10 percent, the committee underlined.

The country received $219.5 from the sale of cotton fiber (63.6 percent increase year-on-year), and from energy - $184.7 million (30.4 percent fall), blacks and non-ferrous metals - $95.4 million (61.4 percent ) and services - $80.2 million (5.8 percent increase), food - $56.3 million (increased by 2.4 times), chemical products - $55.7 million (increased by 5.1 times), machinery and equipment - $39.5 million (increased by 2.1 times), other export - $66.6 million (57.1 percent increase).

Main import items of Uzbekistan were machinery and equipment, which accounted 43 percent of Uzbekistan's imports in the reporting period. Uzbekistan also imported chemical products and plastics (15 percent in total imports), food products (13.2 percent), as well as energy resources and oil products (7.5 percent).
Uzbekistan's foreign trade turnover in 2010 increased by three percent compared to2009 - up to $21.844 billion, including exports grew by 10.8 percent - up to $13.045 billion, imports decreased by 6.8 percent - $8.8 billion and trade surplus decreased by 1.8 times and amounted to $4.25 billion.
