The Iranian Offshore Engineering and Construction Company (IOEC) has made an agreement with the employer to supply 10 offshore drilling derricks and that the construction of two other derricks are experiencing a good physical progress, IOEC reported quoting the Managing Director of the Iranian Offshore Engineering and Construction Company (IOEC) Ali Taheri Motlagh as saying.

"In accordance with the agreement made between the IOEC and Pars Oil and Gas Company, the company has planned to supply 10 offshore drilling derricks and measures are being taken to finance the project," Taheri Motlagh said.

Since the arrival of Shahid Rajaee Derrick which belongs to the National Iranian Drilling Company in 1988, no other proprietary offshore derrick has joined the country's fleet in the south, he said.

"The need for the increase the number of offshore drilling derricks, made the IOEC to start a joint project in collaboration with the North Drilling Company to manufacture two drilling derricks," Motlagh added.

According to Motlagh, the IOEC is in charge of supervising the construction, financial, administrative and technical management of these derricks.

Two Chinese companies have been assigned to manufacture these two derricks.

"The project is being implemented with a progress of 20 and 70 percent," Motlagh said.

He also referred to the presence of IOEC in the drilling section of South Pars' new phases. "The drilling operations of 22 wells in Phase 14 of the South Pars gas field has been assigned to the IOEC, and our company is going to transfer the project to Global Tech Company (a subsidiary of the IOEC, he said.

"We are now conducting negotiations with the IOEC to implement the drilling projects of phases 20 and 21, and most probably the drilling of the wells of these phases will be also handed over to the IOEC," he added.

"IOEC's presence in the drilling projects is to be carried out either independently or by assigning them to its subsidiary (Global Petro Tech)," Taheri Motlagh added.

According to Taheri Motlagh, Global Petro Tech Company has played and is still playing an active role in the implementation of the country's drilling projects. The company's facilities include 3 owned onshore drilling derricks, 2 owned offshore drilling derricks as well as 8 leased offshore drilling derricks.
