The Turkmen Railway Transport Ministry will buy 40 locomotives in China in 2011-2012, Turkmen media reported.
All of them are intended for main destinations. Roughly 35 of them will be involved in cargo transportation, and 5 others are designed for passenger trains.
The national TV channel Yashlyk reported that the power of each section of freight locomotives will hit 4,000 horsepower, top speed - 100 miles per hour.
The work resource of exploiting locomotives without major repair will hit 700,000 - 900,000 kilometers. The warranty period of work is two years.
According to the information, the fleet consists of 274 locomotives.
The length of the railway is 3,127 kilometers in Turkmenistan. The convenient geographical location is an important link of the Eurasian continent. At present, such a strategically important object as the international highway North-South (Iran-Turkmenistan-Kazakhstan) is under construction.
The estimated increase of transit freight traffic is 10.6 million tons / kilometers. Various goods, such as cotton, textiles, oil, liquefied gas, construction materials, agricultural products, consumer goods will be transported for export via the new road.
