The prices on essential goods have grown by 50-70 percent in Georgia year-on-year.
Bread prices hit 0.90 lari (1.71 lari is $1) compared to the previous 0.45 lari, sugar to 2.80 (1.20), oil to 4.30 lari (2.90), buckwheat to 5.50 lari (1.50), potatoes to 1.70 lari (0.70), onions to 2.20 lari (0.75 ), kidney beans to 6 lari (2.75) and gasoline to 2.10 lari (1.60), the Georgian newspaper Banks and Finance reported.
The rising prices affected wheat, vegetable oil and sugar.
Experts forecast that prices on vegetable oil will go up by late 2011.
A similar situation will be observed with sugar.
Prices on dairy products are also expected to increase, as natural disasters in Australia have led to a shortage of natural milk.
The World Bank has warned governments around the world that the prices of essential goods are approaching a dangerous point, which could result in social revolt.
According to the bank, the number of people living below the poverty line has increased by 44 million people since the spring of 2010.
