Iran is Japan's 3rd biggest oil supplier

According to a report released by energy agency affiliated to Japan's Economy Ministry, Japan imported an average of 471,000 barrels per day (bpd) of crude oil, from Iran in February 2011, Shana reported.

This amount of Japan's overall crude oil imports made Iran the 3rd largest oil exporter to that country.

Saudi Arabia remained Japan's biggest oil supplier.

Saudi Arabian oil export to Japan increased by 23.3 percent to 1.190 million bpd, compared to the same period of the previous year.

The United Arab Emirates with 774,000 bpd, was second major crude oil exporter to Japan, during the mentioned period.

Qatar and Iraq stood in 4th and 5th place with regard to crude oil export to Japan for the same period the report added.

According to the said report, Japan imported 3.470 million bpd or 89.5 percent of its crude oil from the Middle East.

Iran is OPEC's second-largest oil producer after Saudi Arabia. The Persian Gulf country sits on the worlds second-largest gas reserves after Russia.
