The ISSA Coordination Centre on Eurasia opened at the Azerbaijani State Social Protection Fund meeting (SSPF) on Tuesday.
The agreement to open a center in Azerbaijan was made at a Steering Committee meeting of the ISSA European network in Geneva in March 2011.
SSPF Head Salim Muslimov said the center's opening is aimed at improving relations between the ISSA and pension organizations, and organizations to provide social protection in Eurasia.
"Moreover, organizations within the ISSA will be given guidance and expert support as part of an exchange of views and experiences in the improvement of their unique national insurance pension protection and social policy plans. The plans include a provision on the use of technology, good governance, and other aspects in this area", Muslimov said.
ISSA Secretary General Hans-Horst Konkolewsky said that this center's creation is important for implementing effective solutions to social problems and the region's insurance pension system.
"The ISSA will use its knowledge and experience for the efficient operation of this center," Konkolewsky said.
The ISSA and SSPF will sign a cooperation memorandum in Baku today.
A two-day international technical seminar "Social protection of migrant workers and globalization" will be conducted in Baku with the support of the SSPF, ISSA and the International Association of pension and insurance funds.
